EGF is a protein composed by 53 aminoacids widely present in our skin. It promotes dermal repair increasing its self-regeneration rate. It produces an increase in keratinocyte proliferation of the corneal epithelium, endothelial cell and fibroblast (increases protein synthesis and glycosaminoglycans).
On a daily basis, they are responsible for triggering the regeneration of micro-vascular networks and improve wound healing by initiating the synthesis of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid.
They were discovered in 1986 by Stanley Cohen and Rita Levi-Montalcini which earned them the Nobel prize in Medicine that year. Only very recently (since less than 10 years), scientists are able to produce them in a safe and standardized way.
